Julie Goldstein Grumet, PhD
Director, Zero Suicide Institute
Dr. Julie Goldstein Grumet is the Director of the Zero Suicide Institute at the Education Development Center (EDC). The programmatic approach of Zero Suicide is based on the realization that suicidal individuals often fall through the cracks in a sometimes fragmented and distracted health care system. A systematic approach to quality improvement in these settings is both available and necessary. The Zero Suicide Institute provides expert consultation and guidance to health and behavioral health care organizations as they adopt this robust, comprehensive, evidence-based approach to suicide care. Health care systems who have adopted this approach have seen a 65-75% reduction in their suicide rate. Dr. Goldstein Grumet provides the vision and leadership for the Zero Suicide Institute by overseeing the dissemination, resource development, and application of the Zero Suicide initiative for health care leaders and champions. Dr. Goldstein Grumet also serves as Director of Health and Behavioral Health Initiatives at the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC), a federally funded resource center devoted to advancing the U.S. National Strategy for Suicide Prevention. Both the Zero Suicide Institute and the SPRC are part of EDC, a global nonprofit that advances lasting solutions to improve education, promote health, and expand economic opportunity.
