Mr. Huennekens is a successful entrepreneur in medical devices with some dabbling in biotech, having been a part as a CEO, board member and early investor in 10+ startups with market valuations that have totaled over $5B and more importantly over 20 million patients that have benefited from the therapies and diagnostics of these companies.
He is currently Chairman, President & CEO of Verb Surgical, Google and J&J’s new Surgical Robotics start-up to revolutionize the future of surgery. The company was founded in August 2015 and Scott joined as employee #1. Verb is located on the Google campus in Silicon Valley.
The big vision is to democratize surgery globally so the 5 billion people without access to surgery can have the benefits of surgery and at the same time improve outcomes, lower costs and enable more procedures for all 7.5+ billion people globally.
There are over 300 people currently working on the project, including team members at Verb, Google/Verily (formerly Google Life Sciences) and Johnson & Johnson.
Previously, Scott led Volcano Corp. (NASDAQ: VOLC), as its first and only President & CEO, from start-up in 2002 to its IPO in 2006 and sale to Philips in 2015. Volcano 2014 revenue was more than $400 million and its market capitalization peaked at nearly $2 billion. Prior to this, he was at Digirad Corporation, a diagnostic imaging solutions provider, from 1997 to 2002, serving as President & CEO from 1999 to 2002. Digirad went public in 2004 (NASDAQ: DRAD).
Mr. Huennekens graduated Magna Cum Laude with BS in Business Administration from the Univ. of Southern California in 1986 and earned his MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1991. Scott has also been awarded E&Y’s entrepreneur of the year award and was recognized by Goldman Sachs in 2016 and 2017 as one of the 100 most intriguing entrepreneurs at its annual Builders & Innovators conference.
He counts climbing Mt. Fuji 6 times post late night karaoke, coaching 30+ kids sports teams, signing 1+ million emails go go go, and being happily married for 28+ years and helping to raise three wonderful children as his biggest accomplishments – though not necessarily in that order.
